Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool. Start engine. Using scan tool, check BARO V PID data. If less than .01 volt is present, go to next step. If .01 volt or more is present, problem is intermittent. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Disconnect EGR boost sensor connector. Record PID data for BARO V. If more than 4.8 volts is present, go to next step. If 4.8 volts or less is present, go to step  5 .
  4. NOTE: If DTC P0122 and P0452 are also present, check reference voltage. See REFERENCE VOLTAGE TEST  .
  5. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EGR boost sensor harness connector terminal "C" (Gray/Red wire). If 4.5-5.5 volts are present, check connector. If connector is okay, replace EGR boost sensor. If connector is bent or corroded, repair connector and go to step  7 . If 4.5-5.5 volts are not present, repair open in Gray/Red wire between EGR boost sensor and PCM connector terminal No. 90 and go to step  7 .
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connections. Check for continuity between EGR boost sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Yellow/Black wire) and ground. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step  7 .
  7. Check for continuity between EGR boost sensor harness connector terminals "A" (Yellow/Black wire) and "C" (Gray/Red wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short between circuits and go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all connections. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0107 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P0107 is not present, go to next step.
  9. Cycle ignition from off to on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
