Clutch Assembly: Inspection

  1. Inspect disc for loose rivets, worn springs, or oil contamination. Minimum lining height above rivet heads is .012" (.30 mm). Measure clutch disc runout. Runout limit is .028" (.70 mm).
  2. Inspect disc hub and input shaft splines for excessive wear. Hub must slide smoothly on input shaft splines. Inspect flywheel and pressure plate for scoring, grooves, or warpage. Inspect pressure plate diaphragm spring finger depth and runout. Depth limit is .024" (.60 mm). Runout limit is .020" (.50 mm).
  3. Flywheel runout limit is .008" (.20 mm). Machine flywheel surface if necessary. If flywheel ring gear is replaced, chamfer on teeth must face engine.
  4. Inspect pilot bearing for excessive wear. Apply inward pressure while rotating pilot bearing. If pilot bearing sticks or has excessive resistance, replace bearing.
