Valve Clearance Inspection: 626

  1. Ensure engine is cold. Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove cylinder head cover.
  2. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at TDC of compression stroke. Measure clearance on cylinders designated "A". See Figure.
  3. Rotate crankshaft 240 degrees so No. 3 piston is at TDC of compression stroke. Measure clearance on cylinders designated "B". See Figure.
  4. Rotate crankshaft 240 degrees so No. 5 piston is at TDC of compression stroke. Measure clearance on cylinders designated "C". See Figure.
  5. If valve clearance is not within specification, replace tappet adjustment shims. See VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT .
