Test W: O/D Off Indicator Inoperative

  1. Test drive vehicle and verify overdrive function. If overdrive operates properly, go to next step. If overdrive does not operate properly, repair overdrive concern. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  2. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, select instrument cluster WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME active command. Trigger ALL LAMPS active command and observe O/D OFF indicator. If O/D OFF indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If O/D OFF indicator illuminates, repair overdrive concern. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  3. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
