Test U: Seat Belt Warning Indicator Inoperative (Chime Operative)

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, fasten and unfasten driver's seat belt while monitoring D_SBELT PID. If D_SBELT PID does not indicate NO when driver's seat belt is unfastened and YES when driver's seat belt is fastened, go to next step. If D_SBELT PID indicates NO when driver's seat belt is unfastened and YES when driver's seat belt is fastened, go to step  5 .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect seat belt switch 2-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between seat belt switch harness connector terminals. Observe seat belt warning indicator. If seat belt warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If seat belt warning indicator illuminates, replace seat belt switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C220b. See Figure . Measure resistance of Light Green wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b, terminal No. 3 and seat belt switch harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b, terminal No. 3 (Light Green wire). See Figure . Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and seat belt switch, and 10 k/ohms or more between instrument cluster and ground. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Light Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b, terminal No. 3 (Light Green wire). If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Light Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  5. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME active command. Trigger ALL LAMPS active command and observe seat belt indicator. If seat belt indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If seat belt indicator illuminates, go to step  7 .
  6. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b, terminal No. 3 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  7. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  . If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
