Test S: Malfunction Indicator Light Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, select instrument cluster WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME active command. Trigger ALL LAMPS active command and observe Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). If MIL does not illuminate, go to next step. If MIL illuminates, retrieve DTCs. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
