Test R: High Beam Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn headlights on and verify high beam operation. If high beams operate properly, go to next step. If high beams do not operate correctly, repair high beams as necessary. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster 20-pin harness connector C220a. See Figure . Turn high beams on. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220a, terminal No. 14 (Light Green/Black wire). See Figure . If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn high beams off. Disconnect headlight switch 17-pin harness connector. Measure resistance of Light Green/Black wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220a, terminal No. 14 and headlight switch harness connector terminal No. 17. See Figure and Fig 1 . Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220a, terminal No. 14 (Light Green/Black wire). Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and multifunction switch, and 10 k/ohms or more between instrument cluster and ground. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Light Green/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220c, terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire between instrument cluster and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Ground point is located behind left side of instrument panel.
  5. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
