Test O: Air Bag Indicator Inoperative

WARNING:
Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving air bag restraint components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINTS article. Do not apply electrical power to any component in air bag restraint system without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
- Disable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Disconnect Restraints Control Module (RCM) 26-pin harness connector C2041a. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and RCM harness connector C2041a, terminal No. 20 (Black/Yellow wire). See Fig 1 . Turn ignition switch to ON position. If air bag indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If air bag indicator illuminates, system is operating properly at this time.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C220b. See Figure . Measure resistance of Black/Yellow wire between RCM harness connector C2041a, terminal No. 20 and instrument cluster harness connector C220b, terminal No. 11. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Yellow wire. SeeWIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b, terminal No. 11 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure . If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Black/Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
