Test G: Incorrect Temperature Gauge Indication

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any other DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX under RETRIEVING CODES  .
  2. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster ENGINE COOLANT active command. Trigger ENGINE COOLANT active command and scroll in increments of 0%, 50% and 100%. Temperature gauge should read COLD at 0%, half way at 50% and HOT at 100%. If temperature gauge is not as specified, go to next step. If temperature gauge is as specified, repair engine coolant sensor concern. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
