Test C: Instrument Cluster Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster 18-pin harness connector C220c. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220c, terminals No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire), No. 3 (Black/Pink wire) and No. 4 (Orange/Light Green wire). See Figure . If all voltages are 10 volts or more, go to next step. If any voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220c, terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220c, terminal No. 5 (Black wire). If both resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
