Hazard Switch Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect hazard switch. See HAZARD SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using DVOM, measure voltage between hazard switch harness terminal 1 (White/Red wire) and ground. If measured voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to step  3 . If measured voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect electric flasher unit. Measure resistance in White/Red wire between flasher unit terminal No. 5 and hazard switch harness terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace electronic flasher unit. Retest hazard flasher system for correct operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair White/Red wire between electronic flasher and hazard switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Measure resistance between hazard switch harness terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, install a new hazard switch. Retest hazard flasher system for correct operation. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair black wire between hazard switch and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
