Rocker Arm & Valve Lash Adjuster: Removal

NOTE:
Valve adjuster may also be referred to as Hydraulic Valve Adjuster (HLA)
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove right splash shield. Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Remove drive belt. See TIMING CHAIN . Remove P/S pump pulley and oil pump, with P/S pipes connected. See ENGINE .
- Remove IMRC actuator. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Remove high-tension lead, condenser and ignition coil. Remove water pump drive belt cover, drive belt and drive belt pulley. Remove camshaft oil seal and seal housing. See TIMING CHAIN .
- Remove cylinder head covers, wiring harness and connector bracket, engine hanger, crankshaft pulley lock bolt, crankshaft pulley and camshaft caps. See TIMING CHAIN .
- Slightly lift camshaft. Remove twelve rocker arms. Remove HLA.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each side.
NOTE:
If reusing rocker arm and HLA, mark positions for reassembly reference. Ensure rocker arm does not slip into timing chain cover when removing rocker arm from engine front.
