Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mazda MPV and 2000 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove timing chain. See TIMING CHAIN . Remove oil strainer. Loosen oil pump bolts in sequence. See Fig 1. Remove oil pump.
  2. Install oil pump. Tighten bolts to specification, in sequence. See Fig 1. Install oil baffle assembly and tighten nuts to specifications. Using protractor, tighten nuts an additional 45 degrees. Install strainer with NEW gasket. Apply engine oil to gasket. Tighten oil strainer bolts. Tighten oil strainer stay nut to specification. Using protractor, tighten stay nut an additional 45 degrees. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
