Possible Causes

Passenger-side air bag module No. 1 inflator malfunction can be cause by open or short circuit in wiring harness between passenger-side air bag module and SAS control module, passenger-side air bag module inflator No. 1 malfunction or SAS control module malfunction.

  1. Inspect passenger-side air bag module inflator No. 1

    Using scan tool, inspect resistance for PID/DATA monitor P-ABAGR. See PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD  under DIAGNOSTICS. If resistance is 1.4-2.9 ohms and performing present malfunction diagnosis, replace SAS control module. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 1.4-2.9 ohms and performing past malfunction diagnosis, test is complete. If resistance is not 1.4-2.9 ohms, go to next step.

  2. Inspect passenger-side air bag module connector

    Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least one minute. Remove glove box. Disconnect and inspect passenger-side air bag module connector. If passenger-side air bag module connector is damaged, replace air bag system wiring harness. If passenger-side air bag module connector is not damaged, go to next step.

  3. Isolate malfunction

    Connect leads of two 2 ohm resistors across terminals of passenger-side air bag module connector terminals No. 1C and 1D (inflator No. 1), and terminal No. 1A and 1B (inflator No. 2). See Figure . Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)  under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTCs B1913, B1925, B1933 and/or B1935 are retrieved, replace air bag system wiring harness and go to next step. If DTCs B1913, B1925, B1933 and/or B1935 are not retrieved, replace passenger-side air bag module.

  4. Inspect SAS control module

    Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least one minute. Connect passenger-side air bag module connector. Connect negative battery cable. Retrieve DTCs. If DTCs B1913, B1925, B1933 and/or B1935 are retrieved and performing present malfunction diagnosis, replace SAS control module. If DTCs B1913, B1925, B1933 and/or B1935 are not retrieved, test is complete.
