Possible Causes

An AIR BAG warning light that is continuously illuminated may be caused by SAS control module malfunction, no connection in SAS control module connector, instrument cluster (print plate) malfunction or short circuit in wiring harness between SAS control module and instrument cluster.

1. Verify SAS control module harness connector is connected
   
   Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least one minute. Access SAS control module and inspect connectors. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If connectors are properly connected, go to next step. If connectors are not properly connected, reconnect connectors and go to step  4 .
2. Inspect wiring harness for short to ground
   
   Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check for continuity between ground and SAS control module No. 1, terminal No. 1X. See Figure . If continuity exists, replace air bag system wiring harness and go to step  4 . If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
3. Inspect instrument cluster for short to ground
   
   Check for continuity between component side of instrument cluster terminal No. 3R and terminals No. 3A and 3D. If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster and go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace SAS control module and go to next step.
4. Check for malfunction after repair
   
   Reconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If AIR BAG warning light operates properly, test is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate properly, go to step  1 and repeat diagnostic test.
