Possible Causes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Open or short circuit in wiring harness between left side curtain air bag module and SAS control module, left side curtain air bag module malfunction or SAS control module malfunction.
- Inspect left side curtain air bag module
Using scan tool, inspect resistance for PID/DATA monitor DR-CURTN. See PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD under DIAGNOSTICS. If resistance is 1.4-3.2 ohms and performing present malfunction diagnosis, replace SAS control module. See SAS CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 1.4-3.2 ohms and performing past malfunction diagnosis, test is complete. If resistance is not 1.4-3.2 ohms, go to next step. - Inspect left side curtain air bag module connector
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove right lower B-pillar trim panel. Disconnect and inspect left side curtain air bag module connector. If left side curtain air bag module connector is cracked or chipped, replace wiring harness. If left side curtain air bag module connector is not cracked or chipped, go to next step. - Isolate malfunction
Connect leads of 2 ohm resistor across terminals of left side curtain air bag module 2-pin connector. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, inspect PID/DATA monitor OD-D-CURT. If PID readings are normal, replace left side curtain air bag module. See SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If PID readings are not normal, replace wiring harness and go to next step. - Inspect SAS control module
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disable air bag system. Connect left side curtain air bag module connector. Connect negative battery cable. Retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTCs B2773, B2774, B2775 or B2776 are retrieved and performing present malfunction diagnosis, replace SAS control module. If DTCs B2773, B2774, B2775 or B2776 are retrieved and performing past present malfunction diagnosis, test is complete. If DTCs B2773, B2774, B2775 or B2776 are not retrieved, test is complete.
