Intermediate Shaft Removal Note

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mazda 6 and 2003 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Separate the right side axle shaft from the intermediate shaft by tapping on a brass bar inserted between them. See Figure .
  2. Separate the intermediate shaft bracket from cylinder block.
  3. Pull the intermediate shaft straight out.
    CAUTION: The sharp edges of the intermediate shaft can slice or puncture the oil seal. Be careful when removing the intermediate shaft from the transaxle.
  4. Install the Differential Side Gear Holder (49-G030-455) into the transaxle to hold the side gears after the intermediate shaft is removed. See Figure .
