Circuit Open/Short Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mazda 6 and 2003 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect PCM harness connectors. PCM is located under left side of instrument panel. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
- Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness connector. On 2.3L engines, the ECT sensor is located under the ignition coil. On 3.0L engines, the ECT is located in the water bypass tube. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
- Check for continuity in circuits between Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness connector terminal "A" and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connector terminal 2AK (White wire) and between ECT sensor harness connector terminal "B" and PCM harness connector terminal 2AA (Brown wire). See Figure and Fig 1 . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in appropriate circuit.
- Check for continuity between the following:
- ECT sensor harness connector terminal "A" and power supply.
- ECT sensor harness connector terminal "A" and ground.
- ECT sensor harness connector terminal "B" and power supply.
If continuity does not exist in all circuits, all circuits are okay at this time. If continuity exist in any circuit, repair short to ground or power as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
