Protege 1.6L

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mazda Protege, 2001 Mazda Millenia, 2001 Mazda MX-5 Miata, 2001 Mazda MPV, and 2001 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

IAT sensor is part of Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor. Disconnect MAF/IAT sensor connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between MAF/IAT sensor terminals "D" and "E". See Fig 1 . See MAF/IAT SENSOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS (PROTEGE 1.6L)  table. If resistance is not as specified, replace MAF/IAT sensor. If resistance is as specified, check for open between IAT sensor harness connector terminal "D" and PCM harness connector terminal No. 39 (Blue/White wire) or between IAT sensor harness connector terminal "E" and PCM harness connector terminal No. 91 (Orange wire). Check for short to ground between IAT sensor harness connector terminal "D" and PCM harness connector terminal No. 39 (Blue/White wire). Repair as necessary.
