Cylinder Head - LH: Removal

  1. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
  2. Remove the coolant bypass tube. Refer to BYPASS TUBE .
  3. Remove the LH camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFTS - LH .
  4. CAUTION: The camshaft followers must be installed in their original position.

  5. Remove the camshaft followers.
  6. CAUTION: The hydraulic lash adjusters must be installed in their original position.

  7. Remove the hydraulic lash adjusters.
  8. Position the water pump and housing aside. Refer to WATER PUMP .
  9. Raise the vehicle.
  10. Remove the LH exhaust manifold. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD - LH .
  11. Remove the oil level indicator tube nut.

  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. NOTE: The cylinder head bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.

  14. Remove the bolts in the sequence shown and remove the cylinder head.
    1. Discard the gasket and the bolts.
