Test Z: Check Fuel Cap Indicator Inoperative/Always On (DTC P0457)

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Powertrain Control Module (PCM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC P0457 is retrieved, repair evaporative system concern. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME. Trigger ALL WARNING LAMPS active command and observe CHECK FUEL CAP indicator. If CHECK FUEL CAP indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If CHECK FUEL CAP indicator illuminates, repair evaporative system concern. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
