Test Y: 4WD High, 4WD Low Indicator Inoperative
- Verify proper operation of 4WD function. If 4WD function is correct, go to next step. If 4WD function is not correct, see appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
- Retrieve and record continuous and on-demand self test DTCs from 4WD control module. Clear DTCs. If no DTCs are present, go to next step. If DTC P1804, P1806, P1808 or P1810 exists, go to next step. If DTC B1342 exists, check 4WD control module connectors for corrosion or damage. If no problem is found, replace 4WD control module.
- Check 4WD HIGH and 4WD LOW indicator operation. If 4WD HIGH indicator is inoperative, go to step 6. If 4WD LOW indicator is inoperative, go to step 9. If both 4WD HIGH and 4WD LOW indicators are inoperative, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C-214. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 5 (Orange/Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C-214. See Figure. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect headlight switch harness connector X-205. Measure resistance in Orange/Black wire between terminal No. 5 at instrument cluster harness connector C-214 and terminal No. 8 at headlight switch harness connector X-205. See Figure and Figure . Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 5 (Orange/Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C-214. Resistance should be 5 ohms or less between instrument cluster and headlight switch and greater than 10 k/ohms between ground and instrument cluster. If resistance is as specified, repair headlight system and/or replace headlight switch as necessary. See appropriate wiring diagram in HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS article. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Orange/Black wire.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 3-wire 4WD control module connector. Using a 10-amp fused jumper wire, ground harness connector Gray wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If 4WD indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If 4WD indicator illuminates, check 4WD control module connector for corrosion or damage. If no problem is found, replace 4WD control module. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C-214. Measure resistance between 4WD control module harness connector Gray wire terminal and terminal No. 3 at instrument cluster harness connector C-214. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. Clear DTCs and retest system. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray wire. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and 4WD control module harness connector Gray wire terminal. If voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Gray wire. If voltage is not present, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 4WD control module 3-wire connector. Using a 10-amp fused jumper wire, ground 4WD control module harness connector Light Blue/Black wire terminal. If 4WD indicator illuminates, check 4WD control module connector for corrosion or damage. If no problem is found, replace 4WD control module. If 4WD indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C-214. Measure resistance between 4WD control module harness connector Light Blue/Black terminal and terminal No. 2 at instrument cluster harness connector C-214. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire. After repair, clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between 4WD control module harness connector Light Blue/Black wire terminal and ground. If voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Light Blue/Black wire. If voltage is not present, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. Clear DTCs and retest system.
