Test W: Door Ajar Indicator Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, monitor PID IGN_GEM while turning ignition switch to each position. If PID values agree with key positions, go to next step. If PID values do not agree with key positions, see appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.WARNING: If vehicle is equipped with manual transmission, depress clutch while ignition switch is in START position.
- Retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs. Perform GEM on-demand self-diagnostic test. If no DTCs exist, go to step 4. If DTC B1322 or B1330 exists, repair interior light circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. If DTC B1325 exists, go to step 9. If DTC B1323 exists, go to next step. If DTC B1342 exists, check GEM connector for corrosion or damaged connector pins. If no problem is found and problem still exists, replace GEM.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor PID DRAJR_L. Toggle active command AJAR LAMP on and off. If PID DRAJR_L reads correct state, check GEM connector for corrosion or damaged connector pins. If no problem is found and problem still exists, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If PID DRAJR_L reads OFF-B, go to step 9. If PID DRAJR_L reads OFFO-G, go to next step.
- Check fuel gauge operation. If fuel gauge operates properly, go to step 6. If fuel gauge does not operate properly, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 12-pin and 16-pin harness connectors C-214 and C-215. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 8 (Red/Yellow wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C-215. See Figure and Figure . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Yellow wire.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect remaining instrument cluster harness connector(s). Measure resistance between terminals No. 11 and 13 at instrument cluster connector C-214 (component side). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) 26-pin harness connector T-221 (2.5L) or T-2100b (3.0L and 4.0L). On 2.5L, measure resistance in Black/Orange wire between terminal No. 9 at GEM harness connector T-221 and terminal No. 11 at instrument cluster harness connector C-214. On 3.0L and 4.0L, measure resistance in Black/Orange wire between terminal No. 3 at GEM harness connector T-2001b and terminal No. 11 at instrument cluster harness connector C-214. See Figure and Figure or Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Orange wire. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- On 2.5L, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (Black/Orange wire) at GEM harness connector T-221. On 3.0L and 4.0L, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/Orange wire) at GEM harness connector T-2100b. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, check GEM connector for corrosion or damage. If no problem is found, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/Orange wire. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) 26-pin harness connector T-221 (2.5L) or T-2100b (3.0L and 4.0L). Disconnect instrument cluster connectors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. On 2.5L, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 9 (Black/Orange wire) at GEM connector T-221. See Figure. On 3.0L and 4.0L, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/Orange wire) at GEM connector T-2100b. See Figure. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Black/Orange wire. Clear DTCs and retest system. If voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect GEM harness connector. Using NGS tester, monitor PID DRAJR_L. Set active command ajar light off. If PID DRAJR_L reads OFF---, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. Clear DTCs and retest system. If PID DRAJR_L does not read OFF---, check GEM connector for corrosion or damage. If no problem is found, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system.
