Test N: Check Engine/Malfunction Indicator Light Inoperative

NOTE: For additional CHECK ENGINE/MIL light testing, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector B-111. Install breakout box to harness connector. Leave PCM disconnected. Turn ignition on. Using a 10-amp fused jumper wire, connect breakout box terminal No. 2 (Purple/Light Green wire) to terminal No. 24. If warning light illuminates, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If warning light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C-215. Measure resistance between breakout box terminal No. 2 (Purple/Light Green wire) and instrument cluster harness connector C-215 terminal No. 9. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair Purple/Light Green wire and retest system.
