Test C: Oil Pressure Gauge Inaccurate

NOTE: Ensure oil level is correct and oil pressure is within manufacturer's specifications before proceeding. Ensure oil pressure sensor harness connector is clean and secure.
  1. Start engine and allow to idle. If oil pressure gauge shows "L" or below, go to step  5. If oil pressure gauge does not show "L" or below, go to next step.
  2. Turn engine off. Wait one minute. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If oil pressure gauge shows oil pressure, go to next step. If oil pressure gauge does not show oil pressure, system is okay at this time.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C-214. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 12 (Dark Green/White wire) at instrument cluster connector C-214. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace oil pressure gauge.
  4. Disconnect oil pressure sensor harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 12 (Dark Green/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C-214. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green/White wire. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace oil pressure switch.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect oil pressure sensor harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect jumper wire between ground and oil pressure sensor harness connector. If oil pressure gauge shows normal range, replace oil pressure switch. If oil pressure gauge does not show normal range, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C-214. Measure resistance in Dark Green/White wire between terminal No. 12 (Dark Green/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C-214 and oil pressure sensor harness connector. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open Dark Green/White wire.
  7. Disconnect remaining instrument cluster harness connectors. Measure resistance between terminal No. 12 at instrument cluster connector C-214 (printed circuit side) and oil pressure gauge contact clip terminal "S". If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace oil pressure gauge. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system.
