Diagnosis & Repair
- Record FREEZE FRAME PID data. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, access SHIFT C PID from PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD menu. Actuate SHIFT C PID. An audible "click" should be heard from shift solenoid "C". If shift solenoid "C" clicks when actuated, check connectors, terminals and wiring harnesses for intermittent concern. If shift solenoid "C" does not click when actuated, disconnect transaxle 10-pin connector and check connector for damage, pulled out terminals or corrosion. Repair as necessary. If transaxle connector is okay, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between chassis ground and transaxle connector terminal "C". See Figure. If resistance is within 11-27 ohms, disconnect PCM connector and check PCM connector for damage, pulled out terminals or corrosion. Repair as necessary. If PCM connector is okay, check for continuity between transaxle harness connector terminal "C" and PCM harness connector terminal No. 70. See Figure and Figure . If continuity exists, leave transaxle connector disconnected and go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in affected circuit between PCM and transaxle. If resistance is not 11-27 ohms, check shift solenoid "C" connector for damage, pulled out terminals or corrosion. Repair as necessary. If shift solenoid "C" connector is okay, measure resistance between chassis ground and shift solenoid "C" terminal "A". If resistance is 11-27 ohms, replace transaxle internal harness. If resistance is not 11-27 ohms, replace faulty shift solenoid "C".
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using a DVOM, check for voltage between chassis ground and transaxle 10-pin harness connector terminal "C". See Figure. If voltage is present, repair short to ground in affected circuit between PCM and transaxle. If voltage is not present, turn ignition switch to OFF position and check for continuity between chassis ground and PCM harness connector terminal No. 70. See Figure. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in affected circuit between PCM and transaxle. If continuity does not exist, check connectors, terminals and wiring harnesses for intermittent concern.
