Diagnostic Aids
This test is only intended to diagnose:
- Low power supply voltage.
- Malfunction of battery and/or generator.
- Poor ground or open in ground circuit.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ABS CM harness connector. Start engine and operate at idle. Measure voltage between chassis ground and ABS CM harness connector terminal "Z" (Black/White wire). See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step 3 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between chassis ground and ABS CM harness connector terminal "AA" (Black wire). See Figure . If resistance is 0-1 ohm, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-1 ohm, repair poor connection at G202 located at left side of dash, then go to step 5 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between ABS CM and G202 located at left side of dash, then go to step 5 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Measure battery voltage. If battery voltage is normal, go to next step. If battery voltage is not normal, check battery and charging system. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. Repair as necessary, then go to step 5
- Measure battery voltage with electrical load (headlights, A/C, etc.) on and engine operating at idle. If battery voltage is normal, go to next step. If battery voltage is not normal, check generator drive belt tension and generator. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. Repair as necessary, then go to next step
- Reconnect all connectors. Clear DTCs from ABS CM memory and recheck system operation. See CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Start engine and road test vehicle over 6 MPH or more for more than 1 minute. Slow vehicle and come to a complete stop. Recheck for ABS related DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Go to next step.
- If no ABS related DTCs are present, a temporary poor contact in wiring may have occurred and ABS is now functioning properly. If the same ABS related DTC is present, replace ABS CM. If any other ABS related DTCs are present, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table. Perform appropriate diagnostic test(s).
