Description & Operation
WARNING:
Vehicles are equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
Instrument cluster contains a speedometer, tachometer (if equipped), voltmeter, fuel, oil pressure and temperature gauges. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . All models use magnetic gauges to monitor fuel quantity, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. When ignition switch is turned to ON position, warning indicators will light momentarily as a bulb check.
NOTE:
A Generic Electronic Module (GEM) module is used on vehicles equipped with power windows and/or 4WD. On other equipped models, a Central Timer Module (CTM) is used. Functionality and testing are similar.
