Test R - Cruise Control Indicator Never/Always On
- Test drive vehicle and operate cruise control. If cruise control operates properly, go to next step. If cruise control does not operate properly, repair cruise control system. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect cruise control servo harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a jumper wire, ground terminal No. 1 (Orange/Light Blue wire) at cruise control servo harness connector. See Fig 1
. Cycle headlight switch off and back on. If cruise control indicator illuminates, replace cruise control servo. If cruise control indicator does not illuminate with headlight switch in ON or OFF position, go to step 5). If cruise control indicator does not illuminate with headlight switch in OFF position, go to step 4). If cruise control indicator does not illuminate, with headlight switch in ON position, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect headlight switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Rotate headlight switch dimmer wheel to full bright position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 9 (Light Blue/Red wire) at headlight switch harness connector. See Figure
. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace headlight switch. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Light Blue/Red wire between headlight switch connector and fuse No. 11.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect headlight switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 4 (Red/Yellow wire) at headlight switch harness connector. See Figure
. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace headlight switch. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Red/Yellow between headlight switch connector and instrument cluster dimming module.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect headlight switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 4 (Red/Yellow wire) at headlight switch harness connector. See Figure
. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, reconnect headlight switch and go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Red/Yellow between headlight switch connector and instrument illumination dimming module.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C-214. Measure voltage at terminal No. 5 (Orange/Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C-214. See Figure

. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to step 8). If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect headlight switch harness connector. Measure resistance of Orange/Black wire between terminal No. 5 at instrument cluster harness connector C-214 and terminal No. 8 at headlight switch harness connector. See Figure
and Figure
. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace headlight switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open Orange/Black wire.
- Disconnect cruise control servo harness connector. Measure resistance of Orange/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 4 at instrument cluster harness connector C-214 and terminal No. 1 at cruise control servo harness connector. See Figure
and Figure
. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open Orange/Light Blue wire.
- Check for continuity between charge indicator bulb terminals of instrument cluster printed circuit. If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. If continuity does not exist, replace bulb.
