WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

Speedometer receives a signal from vehicle speed sensor (AC voltage signal generator). Fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge and temperature gauge receive signals from variable-resistance sending units. The instrument cluster has a microcomputer which controls input/output check mode. The input/output check mode performs circuit and component checks.
