Temperature Gauge Inoperative Or Incorrect

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. After more than 30 seconds, reconnect negative battery cable. Cycle ignition switch to ON position then LOCK position, 3 times. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Push trip reset button 3 times. Push trip reset button until DTC 25 is reached. If temperature gauge cycles from "H" to 1/2 to "C" repeatedly, go to next step. If temperature gauge does not cycle from "H" to 1/2 to "C" repeatedly, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Push trip reset button until DTC 24 is reached. If LCD does not indicate 000 or 255, go to step 6). If LCD indicates 000 or 255, go to next step.
  3. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect temperature sending unit connector. Check for continuity between ground and instrument cluster harness connector No. 2 terminal 2H. See Figure . If continuity exists, repair short to ground in wiring between instrument cluster and temperature gauge sending unit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Reconnect temperature sending unit connector. Check for continuity between ground and instrument cluster harness connector No. 2 terminal 2H. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step 6).
  5. Disconnect Instrument Cluster connector. Check for continuity between instrument cluster connector No. 2 terminal 2H and Instrument Cluster connector terminal 4D. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace Instrument Cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Remove temperature sending unit. Test temperature sending unit. See TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT under COMPONENT TESTS. If temperature sending unit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If temperature sending unit is defective, replace temperature sending unit.
