Removal (Upper Leading Link)

Raise and support vehicle. Remove snap pin and nut. Remove leading link ball joint. Separate upper leading link ball stud from steering knuckle using Puller (49-T028-303 and 49-T028-304). Remove upper leading link. Remove dust boot. Inspection

Inspect link for damage and boot crack. Inspect ball joint for loosness. Replace link as necessary. Shake ball joint stud 4-5 times. Install Preload Attachment (49-0180-510B) to ball joint stud. Measure ball joint preload using spring scale. On 1997, preload is 0.7-6.6 lbs. (0.3-3.0 kg). On 1998 preload should be 0.7-4.4 lbs. (0.30-2.0 kg).
