Removal & Installation (Except Millenia)

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove ABS wheel speed sensor (if equipped). Remove tie-rod end. Remove stabilizer control link. Remove transverse member bar. On Protege, remove three-way catalytic converter. Remove engine mounting member. On Protege, remove change control rod and extension bar (MTX).
  2. Remove No. 1 engine mount bracket. Remove lower arm. front cross member and steering gear component. Remove No. engine mount On MPV, remove stabilizer bolt and nut, retainer, rubber bushing and spacer. Remove stabilizer bracket and bushing. Remove front stabilizer bar. On all models, inspect all components for wear, bends or damage. Replace components as necessary.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure frame bushing is aligned with White line on stabilizer bar. Ensure seam faces front of vehicle. Fully tighten all bolts with vehicle resting on ground and suspension unloaded. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. On MPV 4Wd, tighten stabilizer-to-lower control arm bolt until 0.20-0.27" (5-7 mm) of bolt thread is exposed at top of bolt and for 2WD tighten until 0.35-0.43" (411 mm). On 1997 Protege, tighten stabilizer-to-lower control arm bolt until 0.67-0.75" (17-19 mm) of bolt thread is exposed at top of bolt.
