AIR BAG Warning Light Flashes 6 Times

  1. Cancel radio anti-theft function. See CANCELING & ACTIVATING RADIO ANTI-THEFT  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. Remove driver side panel. Remove lower panel assembly and lap duct. See Figure . Check condition of lower clockspring connector. If lower clockspring connector is okay, go to next step. If lower clockspring connector is not okay, repair as necessary. Perform TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
  3. Remove driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check upper clockspring connector. If upper clockspring connector is okay, go to next step. If upper clockspring connector is not okay, repair as necessary. Perform TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
  4. With both ends of clockspring connector disconnected, using a DVOM, check for continuity of clockspring Red wire between upper connector and lower connector. See Figure . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace clockspring assembly. Perform TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
  5. Check for continuity of clockspring Green/White wire between upper connector and lower connector. See Figure . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace clockspring assembly. Perform TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
  6. Reconnect lower clockspring connector. With Short Circuit Connectors (49-H066-004) connected to diagnostic module connectors, check for continuity between upper clockspring connector Red wire and diagnostic module connector terminal 2I. See Figure . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, replace wiring harness. Perform TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
  7. Check for continuity between upper clockspring connector Green/White wire and diagnostic module connector terminal 2J. See Figure . If continuity is present, replace driver air bag module. Perform TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If during TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  , AIR BAG warning light flashes 6 times, replace diagnostic module. Perform TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  again. If continuity is not present, replace wiring harness. Perform TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
