Removal & Installation (Miata & 929)

  1. On models with air bag, disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 4 air bag module nuts from underside of steering wheel. Disconnect electrical connector and remove air bag module. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section:

    On models without air bag, remove 2 horn pad screws from underside of steering wheel. Remove horn pad.

  2. Remove steering wheel lock nut. Using a puller, remove steering wheel. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten steering wheel lock nut, air bag module nuts and/or horn pad screws.
