626 (1988-90)
- Connect EC-AT tester, see EC-AT TESTER ASSEMBLY to 6-pin check connector and 1-pin test connector located under dash for 626 (1988-89) turbo and non-turbo and 626 (1990) turbo. See Figure. On 626 (1990) non-turbo, connectors are located in engine compartment. See Figure.
- Turn ignition on, "88" will flash on digital display and buzzer sounds for 3 seconds. If "88" does not flash, check diagnostic connector wiring. If "88" flashes and buzzer sounds continuously for more than 20 seconds, check wiring to terminal 1C (323-1990), M2 (626-1988-89), 1C (626-1990 turbo) or 1F (626-1990 non-turbo) of EC-AT control unit for a short circuit. If necessary, replace EC-AT control unit and repeat steps. Note code number(s) and check for cause(s), see MALFUNCTION CODE NUMBER - 323 (1990) chart and MALFUNCTION CODE NUMBER - 626 (1988-90) chart. Repair as necessary. After repairs are made cancel memory by disconnecting battery negative cable for at least 5 seconds. Recheck for codes by driving vehicle 31 MPH, depress accelerator pedal fully to activate kickdown. Stop vehicle gradually, reconnect EC-AT tester and check for codes.
