Self-Diagnostic System: AAS-2
- Turn ignition off. Turn steering wheel to straight ahead position. Disconnect control unit connector and check resistance values between harness terminals listed in AAS-2 TERMINAL RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS table.AAS-2 TERMINAL RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION
"Terminal" (Wire Color) Approx. Resistance "H" (Green) & "F" (Green/White) 25,000 ohms "H" (Green) & "E" (Green/Yellow) 50,000 ohms "E" (Green/Yellow) & "F" (Green/White) 25,000 ohms - If resistance values are close to specification, replace control unit. If resistance values are not close to specification, proceed to step 3).
NOTE: Steering angle sensor is located in upper portion of steering column, behind steering wheel. Connector is accessible by removing column shroud.
- If resistance values are not close to specification, unplug steering wheel angle sensor connector. Position steering wheel in straight ahead position. Connect ohmmeter across terminals "AO" and "AR" of sensor connector and measure resistance. See Fig 1 .
- Resistance should be approximately 25,000 ohms. Turn steering wheel gradually right approximately 180 degrees. Resistance should decrease to approximately 200 ohms. If steering wheel is turned past 180 degrees, resistance will begin to increase. Return steering wheel to straight ahead position.
- Turn steering wheel gradually left, approximately 180 degrees. Resistance should increase to approximately 50,000 ohms. If steering wheel is turned past 180 degrees, resistance will begin to decrease.
- Connect ohmmeter leads between "AL" and "AR" terminals. Resistance should be approximately 50,000 ohms. If resistance is not as specifiied in any step, replace steering angle sensor.
