Fuel Gauge
NOTE:
Fuel tank must be removed from vehicle for access to fuel gauge sending unit.
- Ensure fuse and wiring are okay. To test fuel gauge, remove fuel tank and disconnect fuel gauge sending unit connector.
- Connect Red wire lead of Checker (49 0839 285) to "Y" terminal (harness side) of sending unit wire. See Fig 1 . Connect checker Black wire lead to "B" terminal.
- Set checker to various resistance values shown in FUEL GAUGE RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS table. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position and ensure needle position corresponds to resistance measurement. See Fig 2 .
- Allow 2 minutes for needle to stabilize. Allowable limit of needle deflection is twice the width of the needle.
- If gauge needle readings are correct according to FUEL GAUGE RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS table, replace sending unit. If gauge readings are incorrect, check wiring. If wiring is okay, replace gauge.
