Suspension - Electronic: Description

The Mazda Auto Adjust Suspension (AAS) is an electronically controlled, variable rate shock absorber system. The suspension damping characteristics are selected in response to driver command issued from the AAS control switch. With the control switch in the "AUTO" setting, all regulation of suspension damping will be assigned to the control unit.

When the "NORMAL" mode is selected, all 4 shocks are set to the "NORMAL" or soft setting. Switching to the "AUTO" mode will allow the computerized control unit to respond to driving conditions with preprogrammed adjustment. Selecting the "SPORT" mode will cause all 4 shocks to adjust to the firm setting at all speeds.

Uniquely featured are angle and speed sensors with brake and accelerator switches that constantly monitor driving conditions. As driving situations other than normal occur, it will be detected by one of the sensors or switches. Instruction is then sent to the control unit to override all commands and apply appropriate suspension damping instantaneously.
