Cylinder Head: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain engine coolant. Remove air cleaner assembly and dipstick. Remove accelerator cable and cruise control cable (if equipped). On EFI equipped engines, relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel hoses (run engine with fuel pump connector disconnected until engine stalls).
- Disconnect fuel hoses and remove fuel pump (carbureted models). Remove heater hoses, brake vacuum hose and canister hose. Disconnect engine harness connectors. Remove high tension leads, distributor and spark plugs. Remove secondary air pipe assembly from exhaust manifold (carbureted models). Remove front engine hanger and ground wire.
- Remove upper radiator hose and coolant by-pass hose and bracket. Remove intake manifold assembly. Remove exhaust manifold insulator and exhaust manifold. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT. Remove camshaft pulley and rear engine hanger. Remove rocker cover. Remove cylinder head bolts gradually and in sequence. See Figure . Remove cylinder head.
