Reassembly (Except L3N71B)

Apply clean ATF to clutch hub and seals. Install inner seal and piston. To avoid damage to seal, apply equal pressure to piston and rotate during reassembly. Position return springs and retainer on top of piston.
Install spring compressor and compress spring retainer. Install snap ring and remove compressor. Ensure snap ring is fully seated.
NOTE: Soak friction plates in ATF for at least 15 minutes before installing.
On JM600 and E4N71B (Nissan 200SX) models, install dish plate with dish facing outward. Install steel plate then friction plate. Alternate until all plates are installed. Install retainer plate and snap ring.

On JM600 and L4N71B (Nissan 200SX) models, use a feeler gauge and measure clearance between retainer plate and snap ring. Clearance must be .063-.071" (1.6-1.8 mm). Replace retainer plate to acquire proper clearance. See DIRECT CLUTCH RETAINER PLATE THICKNESSES table.

On E4N71B models, install steel plates and friction plates in sequence noted at disassembly. Install snap ring. Install retainer plate, overdrive one-way clutch assembly race side and snap ring. See Figure .
On E4N71B models, use feeler gauge and measure clearance between overdrive race side and snap ring. Clearance must be .008" (.2 mm). Replace race side if not within specifications. See DIRECT CLUTCH RACE SIDE THICKNESS table.
