Fuel Gauge

  1. If fuel gauge needle does not move at all, check for blown fuse or damaged wiring harness. If fuel and temperature gauge are inoperative, inspect voltage regulator for malfunction. If only fuel gauge does not work, proceed to step 1) for gauge and sending unit testing.
  2. Disconnect wire to sending unit at fuel tank. Connect Red lead of Checker (49 0839 285) to connector and Black lead of checker to body ground. Set resistance values to application, as shown in RESISTANCES FOR FUEL GAUGE TESTING  chart.
  3. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. After 2 minutes, ensure that needle displays the correct value. SeeFig 1 . Compare gauge reading to chart for resistance values. Allowable indication error is twice the width of the needle. If values do not agree, replace fuel gauge unit.
