300ZX Self-Diagnosing

  1. If power shift indicator flickers at intervals of 1 second up to D2 speed (8-9 MPH), check for broken wiring between shift switch and ECU connector, harness. If wiring is good, shift switch is malfunctioning.
  2. If power shift indicator flickers at intervals of 1 second above D2 speed (8-9 MPH), vehicle speed sensor is defective or wiring between vehicle speed sensor and ECU is broken.
  3. To check vehicle speed sensor, connect voltmeter between terminals No. 11 and No. 22 of ECU connector. Good vehicle speed sensor will give voltage reading varying from 0 volts to over 5 volts while driving vehicle very slowly over 3 feet.
  4. If power shift indicator light flickers at 1/4 second intervals, throttle sensor is defective, wiring harness is broken between throttle sensor and ECU, or ECU is malfunctioning.
  5. To check throttle sensor, connect voltmeter to ECU connector terminals No. 4 and No. 22. Reading should be 0 volts in fully closed throttle position. Reading should be 4 volts in full open throttle position.
