Oil Pump Assembly: Reassembly

CAUTION: Oil pump gears MUST be reinstalled in original positions. Mark gears with ink or paint before removing. NEVER use punch to mark gears.
  1. Install valves and springs in cover with new retaining pins. On all models except JM600, place pump housing in Oil Pump Assembler (Nissan/Datsun: ST2558001; Mazda: 49 0378 405A). Fit inner and outer gears in housing in same position as when disassembled. On JM600 models, use Aligning Dowels (MD998393) to align cover with pump body.
  2. On all models except JM600, check pump cover runout. Temporarily assemble pump cover and housing. DO NOT tighten bolts completely at this time. Attach dial indicator to assembler. Measure total pump cover runout. Total runout must not exceed .003" (.07 mm).
  3. Runout an be adjusted by tapping cover lightly with plastic hammer. Tighten pump cover bolts. Recheck runout. On all models, install seal rings on stator support and new large seal ring on pump housing outside diameter.
