Oil Pump Assembly: Inspection
- Check gear teeth for excessive wear or damage. Replace rubber seal ring if worn.
- Check oil pump clearances as follows: Using a straight edge and feeler gauge, measure pump gear face-to-cover clearance. Clearance should be .0008-.0016" (02-.04 mm). If clearance exceeds .003" (.08 mm), replace gears. See Fig 1
.
- Measure clearance between outer gear and crescent. See Fig 2
. Clearance should be .006-.008" (.14-.21 mm). If clearance exceeds .010" (25 mm), replace gears.
- Measure clearance between outer gear and pump housing. See Fig 3
. Clearance should be .002-.008" (.05-.20 mm). If clearance exceeds .010" (.25 mm), replace gears.
- Check all parts for wear, cracks or other damage. Replace any defective parts. Ensure that oil seal rings and oil feed grooves are not damaged; and rings still have tension. Check side clearance of oil rings. Clearance should be .002-.006" (.04-.16 mm).
