Pinpoint Test J: The Unit Or Language Selections Cannot Be Changed

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See English/Metric, Language And Unit Selections. REFER to: Head Up Display (HUD) - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Message center concern
    • HUD module

  2. J1 VERIFY MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using the message center menu selections, navigate to the unit selections.

    • Change the unit selection from English to Metric, then Metric to English.

    Can the unit selections be changed in the message center? 

    Yes  GO to  J2
    No  DIAGNOSE the message center is not operating correctly. REFER to: Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes .
  3. J2 CHECK FOR CORRECT HUD (HEAD UP DISPLAY) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the HUD module connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the HUD module connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable service articles. TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new HUD module. REFER to: Head Up Display (HUD) Module .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
