The Electronic Selectable One-Way Clutch (SOWC) contains a one-way clutch that is mechanical, prevents Input ring gear, Reaction carrier and Overdrive carrier from rotating backwards and a "Selectable" strut that is controlled by a solenoid, movement from the solenoid causes a strut to deploy, preventing the Input ring gear, Reaction carrier and Overdrive carrier from rotating forward when deployed. In 1A the OWC holds power on, providing 1st gear ratio. The Electronic Selectable One-Way Clutch (SOWC) assembly also contains the Intermediate shaft speed sensor, it measures the speed of the inner race of the Electronic Selectable One-Way Clutch (SOWC).
