Power Transfer Unit

Special Tool(s) / General Equipment 

Hose Clamp(s)
  1. Remove the front subframe. Refer to: Front Subframe .
  2. Remove the RH halfshaft. Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .
  3. Remove and discard the driveshaft to PTU bolt and washer assemblies.

  4. Position aside the driveshaft.

    1. Mark the driveshaft and PTU flange alignment.
    2. Separate the driveshaft from the PTU flange.
    3. Push the engine forward and position aside the driveshaft.

  5. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

  6. Disconnect the catalyst monitor electrical connector.

  7. Remove the RH catalytic converter to transmission bracket bolts.

  8. Remove the RH catalytic converter bracket through bolt and bracket.

  9. Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter nuts. Remove the RH catalytic converter.

  10. Remove and discard the converter gasket.

  11. Disconnect the PTU cooler lines.

    • Using hose clamp pliers, pinch both PTU cooler lines. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)

    • Disconnect the PTU cooler lines.

  12. Disconnect the PTU temperature sensor.

  13. Remove the PTU heat shield bolts and the PTU heat shield.

  14. Disconnect and position aside the PTU vent hose.

  15. Remove the PTU support bracket bolts and the PTU support bracket.

  16. Remove the PTU bolts and the PTU.

  17. Remove and discard the PTU to transmission compression seal.
