Transmission Case: Disassembly

  1. Using the special tool, remove the transfer shaft roller bearing cup from the transmission case. Use Special Service Tool: 204-069 (T81P-1104-C) Remover/Installer, Front Wheel Hub., 307-577 Transfer Gear Bearing race remover.

  2. Punch a hole in the fluid dam. Use the General Equipment: Punch

  3. Use a dent puller to remove the transfer shaft tube fluid dam from the transmission case. Use the General Equipment: Puller

  4. Using the special tool, remove the differential bearing cup.

    1. Position the Differential Bearing Cup Remover 307-586 in the transmission case with the tabs on the Differential Bearing Cup Remover 307-586 aligned with the slots in the transmission case. Use Special Service Tool: 307-586 Differential bearing cup remover.
    2. Expand the Differential Bearing Cup Remover 307-586 by hand.
    3. While holding the Differential Bearing Cup Remover 307-586 in the expanded position with the tabs in the slots of the transmission case, tighten the nut.

  5. Using the general equipment, press the differential bearing cup out of the transmission case. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press

  6. Remove the bolts and the park rod guide plate.

  7. Remove the park pawl return spring.

  8. Remove the park pawl shaft and the park pawl.

  9. Remove the parking pawl abutment pins and the parking pawl abutment.
