Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S): Removal

All sensors 

    1. Remove the nut.

      Torque: 42 lb.in (4.8 Nm)

    2. Detach the 2 engine appearance cover grommets from the ball studs and remove the engine appearance cover.
    3. If the engine appearance cover stud bolt is loosened or removed, it must be installed/tightened into the valve cover.

      Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

    Right hand Heated oxygen sensor 

  2. Remove the upper RH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
  3. Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

  4. Loosen the clamp and position the lower RH air cleaner outlet pipe away from the turbocharger.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  5. Release the clamps and disconnect the tubes. Remove the bolt from the lower air cleaner outlet pipe and position aside.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  6. Loosen the clamp and separate the RHCAC intake lower pipe.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  7. Loosen the clamp and separate the RHCAC intake upper pipe.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    • Detach the retainer and position the EVAP canister purge valve tube aside.

  8. Detach the coolant hose from the starter motor bracket.

    • Remove the bolt.

      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    • Disconnect the bypass valve electrical connector and remove the CAC intake pipe RH.

  9. Clean, inspect, and cover all open ports.
  10. Disconnect the HO2S wire retainer and electrical connector.

  11. Apply penetrating oil to sensor, using the special tool remove the HO2S. Use Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.

    Material: Motorcraft® Penetrating and Lock Lubricant / XL-1

    Left hand Heated oxygen sensor 

  12. Remove the bolts and harness pushpins. Position the harness to access the HO2S sensor.

    • Remove the harness retainer bolt.

      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    • Remove the ground cable bolt.

      Torque: 159 lb.in (18 Nm)

  13. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

  14. Apply penetrating oil to sensor, using the special tool remove the HO2S. Use Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.
